Summary of Role
The Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for managing changes
to the eCommerce platform and configuration. The successful applicant
will be highly organised with a good general understanding of Networks,
Server hardware and website application software within a predominantly
Microsoft environment.
A good understanding of the .Net framework, n-tier development and C# programming would also be advantageous.
Responsibilities
Ensuring the availability and performance of the web servers that support next.co.uk and peripheral domains;
Work directly with the application development teams in the design and configuration of web servers for maximum performance;
Maintain accurate records of configuration, settings, accounts, network allocations, DNS and current performance statistics.
Work directly with the Infrastructure and Hardware procurement to ensure new platforms meet the project deadlines.
Review and submit Infrastructure project PIDs and manage delivery.
Work closely with other IT staff and functional users, ensuring
systems or changes are delivered in a timely and effective manner;
Ensure the ongoing availability of Next systems solutions working toward improved system responsiveness and availability;
Provide system support in response to business needs within
published service levels - respond to and resolve break fixes and
execute preventative maintenance solutions;
Work directly with the functional / business user community on bug
fixes, requests for service and approved changes to current systems and
new applications;
Provide out of hours support, as agreed within the functional area (eg. system upgrades; or in support of programme milestones);
Maintain, Plan and configure Next’s monitoring and load testing solutions.
Ensure integrity, availability and the security of information and systems;
Contribute to the development of Next’s applications strategy.
Essential:
Experience in a commercial IT environment;
Relevant experience with Microsoft Server Operating Systems, IIS, SQL Server.
Proven ability to interpret technical documentation, architectures and functional specifications;
Excellent knowledge of web security, PCI and OWASP.
Preferable:
Competent in at least one development language;
Excellent knowledge of regression testing methodologies, Usability, coding, accessibility and Web Standards;
